Quartermaster Service Marks Its Jubilee
The General Logistics Department of the Material Resources Sector of the Ministry of Defence hosted a ceremony today to mark 13th November – the Day of the Quartermaster Service and the 140th anniversary of its founding.
On that occasion, Acting Head of the General Logistics Department Colonel Predrag Stamenković congratulated members of the Quartermaster Service on the important anniversary and recalled that throughout its 140-year existence, the Service had faced numerous challenges and difficult historical periods. He emphasised that since the beginning of the last century – during both World Wars, the conflicts of the 1990s, and the 1999 NATO aggression – members of the Quartermaster Service had always been a reliable support and one of the key pillars of the Armed Forces, contributing to the preservation of its fighting spirit.
At today’s ceremony, Colonel Stamenković presented letters of appreciation to representatives of organisational units of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, along with business entities that had been among the most active and successful partners in the previous period. The celebration of the anniversary also served as an opportunity to grant incentive awards to individuals who had achieved notable results in their work.
The Day of the Quartermaster Service in the Serbian Armed Forces is observed in remembrance of 13th November 1885, when the Minister of Defence, General Staff Colonel Jovan Petrović, issued an order establishing the Main Quartermaster Department and the administration of the Supreme Headquarters. From its foundation to the present day, the Quartermaster Service has developed and advanced both in peacetime and wartime, in accordance with the needs of the Armed Forces and modern defence standards. Today, with its developed organisation, equipment, technology, and professional and skilled personnel, the Quartermaster Service represents a stable support to the units and institutions of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces.
