Wreaths laid to mark WWI Armistice Day

A delegation from the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces paid tribute today to those who perished by laying wreaths, on the occasion of WWI Armistice Day.

The state wreath-laying ceremony commemorating the holiday was led by the Minister for Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, Milica Đurđević Stamenkovski.

The delegation from the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, led by Deputy Commander of the Training Command Brigadier General Nebojša Cvetković, laid a wreath at the Memorial Ossuary of the Defenders of Belgrade in the World War I at the New Cemetery.

As part of the holiday observances, the delegation also laid wreaths at the French Military Cemetery, at the Memorial Ossuary of Russian soldiers who fell in the World War I, and at the Commonwealth War Cemetery.

The ceremony was attended by Military Bishop Dositej of Lipljan.

On this day in 1918, hostilities in the Great War came to an end. In honour of the millions of innocent victims, commemorative ceremonies are held worldwide every year on 11th November to pay tribute to fallen soldiers, officers, and civilians.
