Commemoration for late General Nebojša Pavković



A commemoration was held today at the Central Military Club in Belgrade for General Nebojša Pavković, former Chief of the General Staff of the Yugoslav Army.
The event was attended by Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić and the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, who offered their condolences to General Pavković’s family.

Lieutenant General Dragan Paskaš (retd), former Chief of the General Staff, addressed those present saying that General Pavković remains a symbol of the defence of the country and an officer who demonstrated loyalty to the homeland in the most difficult times.
- Today, we gather in silence to bid farewell to General Nebojša Pavković, a man who devoted his life to serving his country, his army, and his people. His life was marked by challenges, responsibility, but also by a deep conviction that he was serving a higher cause. In difficult times, which demanded courage, consistency, and resolve, General Pavković never backed down. Regardless of differing views or opinions, one truth remains, he was a soldier to the very end – emphasized Lieutenant General Paskaš.
Major General Luka Kastratović (retd), President of the Serbian Generals and Admirals Club, emphasized that while General Pavković had overcome many of life’s challenges, he could not defeat the serious illness. He added that future generations would find inspiration in his character and his deeds.
- It is hard to find words to describe the life and legacy of General Pavković. He was a humanist and a man of firm character, who demonstrated his abilities and loyalty to the homeland during the NATO aggression in 1999 – said Major General Kastratović. 

Among those in attendance were members General Pavković’s family, Minister of Culture Nikola Selaković, Acting Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Petar Petković, members of the collegiums of the Minister of Defence and the Chief of the General Staff, representatives of various associations, friends, and former comrades-in-arms.
General Nebojša Pavković was born on April 10, 1946, in Senjski Rudnik. He finished the Military Academy – Army Branch, Command and Staff Academy, and the Command and Staff School of Operational Art as the top-ranked student, with an average grade of 10. During his rich military career, he commanded the 16th Motorized Brigade, the Priština Corps, and the Third Army during the NATO aggression in 1999. From 2000 to 2002, he served as Chief of the General Staff of the Yugoslav Army. He received multiple promotions and decorations, including the Order of Freedom, the Order of the Yugoslav Flag (1st Class), and the Order of Bravery.
