Press release
Thanks to the strong support and understanding of the state leadership, salaries for members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces increased by an overage of 181% between 2012 and 2025. This has been the most effective measure for improving the living standards of defence system personnel, but also an investment in their future, as these earnings are included in the calculation of their future pensions.
Unlike the populist measures implemented in 2008, which placed the country in an even more difficult economic position, the aforementioned increases have been based on sound financial indicators.
The Ministry of Defence is actively reviewing options to increase field duty allowances, compensation for engagement in the Ground Safety Zone, and the housing rent reimbursement coefficient, which have not been increased in recent years due to restrictive economic measures.
Certain opposition politicians are trying to distort the fact that, over the past ten years, significant progress has been made in improving the living and working conditions and financial stability of Serbian Armed Forces personnel, by shifting focus to specific allowances which, although important, are not key components of overall living standards. We emphasize that such public statements are clear attempts at media spin, aimed at misleading the public and creating confusion among citizens.
