Military museum exhibition opens at National Museum in Kruševac

An exhibition mounted by the Military Museum, titled The Worthy – Important Anniversaries in Serbian History through Decorations from the Military Museum Collection was officially opened this evening at the gallery of the National Museum in Kruševac, as part of the celebrations of October 14 – Kruševac Liberation Day.
In his opening remarks, Acting Assistant Minister of Defence for Human Resources Siniša Radović emphasized that certain words carry greater weight than others – words that symbolize the highest values in human society.

- One of those words is “freedom”, which holds a special meaning for the Serbian people. When we say the word “freedom” in Serbia, it encompasses struggle, tradition, and history of our people, as well as a lasting value that we have fought for and preserved, and that we still fight for. For us, freedom represents all liberation wars, every fight and battle, and the countless sacrifices made to defend and reclaim freedom. We remember and we will never forget the price our people had to pay to achieve and retain freedom – said Assistant Minister Radović.

He emphasized that, in the days commemorating the liberation of the city of Kruševac, the citizens of Lazar’s city remember with deep reverence everything their city has endured throughout history in order to be free today.

- The sacrifices our ancestors made to win freedom for their descendants must never be forgotten. It is our duty, but above all our honour, to preserve the legacy of their struggle for freedom, and to ensure that no sacrifice made by our people in that struggle is consigned to oblivion. The exhibition we are opening today celebrates freedom as well. The freedom of our city, our people, and our country. The pillars of our freedom are the virtues and spiritual strength of our people, our courage, commitment, and righteousness – emphasized Assistant Minister Radović.

Major Mile Miković, Military Museum Director, emphasized that the Military Museum’s collection contains a vast number of orders, medals, and commemorative medals that belonged to the most prominent figures in our country. A selection of the most significant among them is on display this evening for the citizens of Kruševac.

- Nobility, courage, love of freedom, and humanity, in short - everything that defines us as humans, acted as a beacon in the past, and continue to be the guiding light to the present and the future. Let us protect those virtues and remember the spirit of our ancestors, so we never forget what is most important. Let us be worthy descendants to former generations and worthy ancestors to future ones – said Major Miković, expressing his gratitude to the National Museum of Kruševac for the opportunity for the Military Museum to take part in the celebration of this important anniversary – Kruševac Liberation Day.

Nikola Pantelić, Director of the National Museum of Kruševac, emphasized that Kruševac - a city with a glorious past, the city of Tzar Lazar and the Kosovo Covenant, but also a city that made huge sacrifices during both World Wars, proudly fosters the culture of remembrance today.

- By remembering those days and the heroes who bore the burden of the fight for freedom, we are not only safeguarding our past, but we are also preserving the values that form the foundation of our national and moral identity. The National Museum of Kruševac greets with deep respect our colleagues from the Military Museum, who have been preserving the memory of Serbia’s military, national, and cultural history for more than a century – said Pantelić, expressing his gratitude to the Military Museum for giving the citizens of Kruševac and the Rasina District the opportunity to see this remarkable exhibition.

The exhibition The Worthy – Important Anniversaries in Serbian History through Decorations from the Military Museum Collection by Bojan Vićetnić, Senior Curator at the Military Museum, was premiered at the Military Museum in April this year on the occasion of Serbian Armed Forces Day. Conceptually, the exhibition pays tribute to the heroic feats of our people in liberation wars from 1815 to 1945.

The exhibition will be open to the public in Kruševac until November 30.
