New issue of Odbrana released

The October issue of Odbrana magazine is largely devoted to the Serbian Armed Forces and their modern weapons systems. The article on the Power of Unity military parade offers readers deeper insights into the ongoing efforts to equip and modernize our armed forces and provides more information about the enhancement of their operational capabilities.
This issue places special emphasis on the 12th International Weapons and Military Equipment Exhibition Partner, which was larger and more comprehensive than ever before – both in terms of exhibition space and the number of participants and systems on display.

The System section features an article on advanced combat diver training, carried out by members of the 72nd Special Operations Brigade. We also covered the two-day international scientific conference VojNa 2025, held at the Central Military Club in Belgrade. The event brought together scientists, experts, and researchers from Serbia and 11 other countries, who presented the latest developments in the fields of defence and security and exchanged scientific knowledge throughout the conference.

This issue also features an overview of the Field Marshal Radomir Putnik National Defence School, highlighting the various levels of professional military education it offers to officers of the Serbian Armed Forces. These programs are designed to prepare them for the most demanding leadership roles and to make sure they are fully equipped to respond effectively to modern security challenges.

We have also devoted our attention to the youngest members of the military education system, the students of the Military Grammar School. We spoke with the students from the new 53rd class, as well as with their commanding officers, teachers, psychologists, and school counsellors, to find out how these boys and girls are adjusting to this new chapter in their lives.

Starting with this issue, the Scientific Research section will regularly present the most significant research findings within the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces. The first in the series is the compilation titled The Yugoslav People’s Army (JNA) and the Challenges of Military Professionalism 1945-1992, edited by Tatjana Milošević, Ph.D., a research associate at the Military History Department of the Strategic Research Institute.

For history enthusiasts, this issue also features an article on the Great War. Our regular contributor, Marijana T. Mravoić, Ph.D., offers a scientifically documented and richly detailed account of the Serbian Royal Army’s involvement on the Salonika Front, a major chapter in the Serbian army’s saga that ultimately led to the liberation of the homeland.
