Remembering Greek soldiers in WWI in Pirot

Yesterday, the Ambassador of Greece to Serbia Dimostenis Stoidis attended the ceremony commemorating the memory of Serbian and Greek soldiers who perished in WWI. Besides the Greek Ambassador, the wreaths were also laid by the delegation of MoD and SAF headed by Brig. Gen. Vidoje Zivkovic, Deputy Army Commander.

Furthermore, DAs of Greece, Italy and Germany as well as the representatives of the Ministry of Social and Labour Policy, of the Pirot District, Pirot Municipality, the City of Nis and the Association of Greek Descendants “Greek Light” from Nis and other war associations reps.

- This is another confirmation that history has linked our two nations. No one should forget the past, as those nations who forget their history are doomed, as Ambassador Dimostenis Stoidis said on the occasion. We defended the ideal of liberty, and we thank from the bottom of our hearts to the Serbian authorities and the local self-government in Pirot for tending to this cemetery. This is yet another opportunity for Greece to tell Serbia that it supports Serbia on its path to EU hoping it will continue to nurture good relations with the countries in the region.

A citizen of Pirot Branislav Mitic set out on the bike towards Kajmakcalan, a glorious place of our history, and he informed the Greek ambassador of this> It will take five days of riding. I might get there sooner, but the veterans associations have prepared receptions for me in every village as I plan to visit all the momentous sites. He announced that next year he would go by bike to Thessalonica, and Corfu.
