CBRN response training

The 246th CBRN Battalion stationed in Kruševac conducts daily training to maintain and enhance this SAF unit’s capability to plan and provide CBRN protection to personnel on operations and to provide assistance to civil authorities in mitigating effects of natural disasters and industrial and other accidents.
The training, which is the unit’s main task, is designed to prepare highly-trained specialists – experts in carrying out CBRN control and decontamination measures in incidents involving weapons of mass destruction or during accidents.

The training is divided into two segments – CBRN reconnaissance units’ training and decontamination units’ training. The training uses equipment that provides full protection to personnel working with contaminants and detection, dosimetry and decontamination devices.
During this training phase, which is being conducted at the Ravnjak Training Area, unit members have practiced CBRN control procedures, such as reconnoitring the route of contamination, determining the boundaries of a contaminated area, and decontaminating affected soil and equipment.

Captain First Class Aleksandar Lukić, reconnaissance platoon commander, emphasized that the training process helps battalion members to maintain and improve their proficiency both at the individual and collective levels, while building confidence about the equipment, knowledge and performance of crews and teams.
— Our unit is equipped with devices that are on a par with the world’s most advanced equipment. I would emphasize our detection and dosimetry devices. However, the greatest strength of our unit lies in the character, determination, knowledge and capability of our professional soldiers, non-commissioned officers and officers – said Captain Lukić and encouraged all young men and women who want a challenging yet honourable job and who want to serve their country, to apply for admission into this and other units of the Serbian Armed Forces.

Effective training, which is conducted within the 246th CBRN Battalion throughout the year, improves professional members’ ability to carry out unit-specific tasks and increases the unit’s readiness for rapid and effective response whenever needed.
