Serbian Armed Forces conclude this year’s seasonal engagement on Lido Beach
Today, members of the Serbian Armed Forces’ pontoon units dismantled the pontoon bridge that had connected the Zemun Quay to the Great War Island throughout the summer season. The 334-metre-long bridge, with a carrying capacity of 20 tons, was installed at the end of June this year, providing citizens with easy access to Zemun’s Lido Beach. To ensure round-the-clock safety for all users, a dedicated duty crew was assigned to oversee the bridge’s security and maintenance throughout its operation.
In a complex and demanding operation, sections of the pontoon bridge were disassembled into two floating segments, which will be used to transport the accompanying equipment back to the home base via the waterway. The Serbian Armed Forces, in cooperation with the Tourist Organization of the City Municipality of Zemun, have been providing seasonal crossing over the Danube between the Great War Island and the Zemun Quay for years now. In addition to benefitting citizens, the experience gained from transporting the structure by river, as well as assembling and dismantling the bridge, serves as a valuable opportunity to enhance the skills and operational readiness of the Serbian Armed Forces’ pontoon units.
