Civilian employee Elzan Bibić sets new state record in 5000-metre race

Civilian employee Elzan Bibić, a member of the Sports Unit at the Military Academy of the Defence University, set a new state record in the 5000-metre race at an athletics meeting held in Oordegem, Belgium.
Bibić placed second in his heat, completing the 5000 metres in 13 minutes and 13.06 seconds – breaking his previous personal best, set in 2024 in the Spanish city of Huelva.

Following the race, Bibić expressed his satisfaction with the result.

- I am very pleased with my performance at the meet in Oordegem. From the start, I felt strong and focused. Achieving a new personal best and – at the same time setting a state record – is confirmation that all the training sessions and sacrifices are paying off, which gives me extra motivation to push even harder – said Elzan Bibić.

Over the past two weeks, Bibić delivered another notable performance in the 5000-metre race at the Balkan Athletics Championship in Volos, Greece, where he triumphed with a time of 14:03,83, earning the title of senior champion of the Balkan Peninsula.

With these results, he has become eligible to be considered for selection for the World Athletics Championship, scheduled to be held in Tokyo from September 13 to 21, 2025.
