Aviation Day observed

The Air Force and Air Defence Command and Air Force brigades have solemnly observed Aviation Day – August 2nd, commemorating the decree passed in 1893, which mandated each division of the Royal Serbian Army to have one aviation balloon company.
On this occasion, military ceremonies were held at the Air Force Club in Zemun, accompanied by unit parades at the Colonel-Pilot Milenko Pavlović Military Airfield in Batajnica and the Morava Military Airfield in Lađevci.

The occasion also served as an opportunity for the Air Force and Air Defence Commander, Major General Brane Krnjajić, to present gold aviator badges and the title of flight instructor to selected pilots during the ceremony held at the Air Force Club.
In his overview of the past year’s results, General Krnjajić highlighted the continued efforts in modernization, overhaul, and life-extension of certain aircraft, alongside improvements in personnel living and working conditions, and better storage and maintenance of key assets. He also noted an increase in pilots’ flight hours and excellent training results.

— I would like to highlight the signing of the contract for the procurement of Rafale multirole combat aircraft as one of the most significant achievements in the past year. The launch of this nationally important project marks the beginning of a new technological era for both the aviation branch of the Air Force and air Defence as a whole – an era that will undoubtedly demand great effort and dedication from all of us – said General Krnjajić.
On this occasion, awards were presented to the most successful individuals, and wreaths were laid at memorials located at the Air Force and Air Defence Command and military airfields – honouring the heroes who gave their lives defending the homeland during the 1999 NATO aggression. In doing so, this branch service of the Serbian Armed Forces continues to preserve the memory of their sacrifice.

The ceremonies held at the Air Force and Air Defence Command and military airfields were attended by representatives of SAF units, former commanders, families of fallen soldiers and leaders, representatives of the local government and the Serbian Orthodox Church, and other distinguished guests.
