Press release

This year’s commissioning ceremony for the youngest officers of the Serbian Armed Forces will take place at the General Jovan Mišković Barracks in Banjica due to the ongoing infrastructure development projects in the vicinity of the National Assembly building. As a result of these works, it is not possible to organize the ceremony in the same manner as in previous years.

The Ministry of Defence emphasizes that there is no basis for daily political interpretations of this decision, which is based exclusively on organizational and technical considerations.

In addition, we note that until 2006, commissioning ceremonies for Military Academy graduates were traditionally held at the institution’s headquarters in Banjica, and were regularly attended by holders of the highest state offices. Furthermore, the public is well aware that the ceremony was also held at the General Jovan Mišković Barracks in 2020.

We appeal to all political actors and media representatives not to use the commissioning ceremony of our youngest officers – an event that represents the culmination of years of effort and dedication – as a platform for unfounded attacks or disputes that undermine the dignity and significance of this solemn occasion.

The Ministry of Defence calls on all interested citizens to follow the live broadcast of the ceremony on RTS 2, on August 2nd at 10:00 a.m., and to share in the joy and pride of this important day alongside the families of the youngest officers of the Serbian Armed Forces.
