Advanced free fall parachute training

Advanced parachute training is in progress at the Sergeant-Pilot Mihajlo Petrović Military Airfield in Niš, involving personnel from the 63rd Parachute Brigade and the Gendarmerie.
The primary objective of this training is to prepare paratroopers to execute free fall jumps using specialized parachute systems, while fully equipped with weapons and gear. Jumps are conducted from altitude of up to 5,500 metres, employing High Altitude High Opening (HAHO) and High Altitude Low Opening (HALO) techniques and landing into confined areas surrounded by obstacles to carry out combat missions.

The advanced parachute training is reserved for paratroopers who have demonstrated exceptional readiness and capability during the previous selective training and who have successfully completed mentally and physically demanding selective jumps.
Throughout the course of the training, participants acquire advanced knowledge and skills essential for packing, storage and maintenance of specialized parachutes, as well as proper procedures within the aircraft and carrying weapons and gear while conducting jumps using RAM air parachutes with wing-shaped canopies. Paratroopers also learn how to achieve and maintain body stability during free fall, receive instruction in basic meteorology, and execute jumps using specialized parachutes and landing into a confined area.

The execution of this training forms the professional foundation for the continued advancement of parachute training. It also serves as a selection mechanism for identifying the most capable paratroopers – those who will become the core element of special operations involving airborne insertions. Through further training under varying conditions, the unit personnel are developed into highly skilled paratroopers, capable of executing the most complex missions.
Advanced parachute training is just one component of the complex training conducted within the 63rd Parachute Brigade throughout the year, the purpose of which is to maintain the highest level of competence in executing assigned missions in operations conducted by the Serbian Armed Forces.
