A ceremony commemorating Field Marshal Živojin Mišić was held tonight in Strugarnik – the birthplace of the famous military leader, as part of “Mišićevi dani” celebrations.
At the event, which is being held for the 29th time, Gold Field Marshal Živojin Mišić Plaques were traditionally presented to deserving individuals and institutions. This year’s recipients are the Head of the Military Police, Major General Milan Lazić, and the top student of the General Staff Course’s 68th graduating class, Lieutenant Colonel Bojan Ćeferjanović.

As part of the event, a delegation from the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, led by Deputy Commander of the 2nd Training Centre in Valjevo, Lieutenant Colonel Milinko Nenadović, laid a wreath at the Monument to Field Marshal Živojin Mišić.
At the beginning, Minister of Education Dejan Vuk Stanković addressed the audience stressing that it was his honour to speak at “Mišićevi dani” event, as “Živojin Mišić’s name is synonymous with success and immortal glory and honour”.

- Born in this small village of Strugarnik, he acquired great military knowledge through hard work and strong will power, and he demonstrated it in the battles he led. The architect of our great victory in the Battle of Kolubara, the man who had the courage to propose a decisive counter-attack against more powerful German and Bulgarian armies during the retreat from Albania. He left an indelible mark on our glorious history and demonstrated and unequivocally proved the freedom-loving spirit and courage of our people. Field Marshal Mišić remains a landmark and a guidepost – said Minister Dejan Vuk Stanković.
President of the Municipality Boban Janković said that the story of a man who with his wisdom, courage and self-confidence had written some of the most glorious pages in our country’s history, had started in Strugarnik.

- He was the voice of reason and a support in times of uncertainty, an example of how to win. Then, as now, victory was achieved through knowledge, responsibility, wisdom and love for the homeland – emphasized Janković, adding that “Field Marshal Mišić is not only a part of our history, but also a testament, and his spirit continues to inspire faith that anything is possible when one acts honourably and decisively”.
