Minister Gašić meets with UN Assistant Secretary-General Jenča

Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić has met today in Belgrade with Miroslav Jenca, Assistant Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia and the Americas in the United Nations.

During the meeting, the Minister of Defence emphasised that the Republic of Serbia contributes to the protection of international law, primarily through deployments to peacekeeping operations, thus constantly enhancing the cooperation with the United Nations.

Minister Gašić pointed out that in the previous period, new pledges at ministerial meetings in Ghana and Germany dedicated to peacekeeping missions, confirmed Serbia’s commitment to strengthening peacekeeping efforts around the world.
He recalled that, according to UN Security Council Resolution 1244, only KFOR is allowed to be present in Kosovo and Metohija and that KFOR is the guarantor of peace and security for the Serbian population in the southern Serbian province.

At the meeting it was underlined that the presence and activities of UNMIK, together with KFOR, are of exceptional importance for ensuring the security of the Serbian and other non-Albanian population and that it is necessary for the aforementioned mission to continue its activities in Kosovo and Metohija.
Assistant Secretary-General Jenča expressed gratitude to Serbia for its commitment to promoting peace and dialogue, as well as preserving stability in the region. He also emphasized that our country’s contribution to peacekeeping operations is highly respected and recognised in the international community and expressed the expectation that Serbia will continue to do so, especially when it comes to the deployment of members of the Serbian Armed Forces to multinational operations.
