New issue of Odbrana magazine

In the July issue of Odbrana magazine we dedicated a significant space in the Focus column to the celebration of St. Vitus Day, the state ceremony in Kruševac and the presentation of decorations for the St. Vitus Day in the Palace ‘Srbija’. This year, the Order of Merit in the Field of Defence and Security, First Class, was awarded to the 204th Air Force Brigade, and the Golden Medal for Bravery ‘Miloš Obilić’ was posthumously awarded to Second Lieutenant Predrag Peđa Leovac, a hero who died in 1999 in a battle against Albanian terrorists in the area of the Kosare guardhouse.

For members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, June is one of the most dynamic months, as many exercises are conducted at that time. We present the most significant ones on the pages of Odbrana magazine.

We dedicated the Standing Point section to the final exercise of the Military Academy cadets of the 146th class, which was carried out at the ‘Pasuljanske livade’ Military Complex. We also followed the tactical live-fire exercise of members of the River Flotilla dubbed “Defence 2025”, which was held on the Danube, Begej and Tisza waterways, while the programmed ship gun firings were carried out at the temporary ‘Titel’ firing range.

The 5th military-police competition was held in Kraljevo, where 15 teams tested their skills and abilities. The teams competed at the ‘Žiča’ shooting range and the ‘Beranovac’ firing range. We were also present at the final exercise of the 11th class of cadets of the Military Medical Academy Faculty of Medicine and the 23rd class of military professional training for reserve officers of the medical service, entitled ‘Spring 2025’. This year, the exercise was carried out in accordance with the second mission of the Serbian Armed Forces and involved providing medical care of the wounded and sick in a multinational operation.

We also monitored the three-day national command post exercise ‘Cyber Tesla 2025’ that was held at the Communications and Information Technology Training Centre in Gornji Milanovac, organized by the Telecommunications and Information Technology Directorate of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff. This exercise once again demonstrated the importance of cooperation between the defence system and the civilian sector in the field of cyber security.

In anticipation of 30 July – Medical Service Day, we spoke with the Head of the Military Health Department, Prof. Brigadier General Dragan Dinčić. He explained all the complexity of that system through the organisation of work, the material status of employees, the organisation of the supply of material consumables, and also spoke about medical treatment using new methods.

We continue the story of the implementation of important projects of the Infrastructure Department of the Infrastructure and Standard Services Sector of the Ministry of Defence. These are primarily construction works carried out at various locations, the ultimate goal of which is to improve the infrastructure in the defence system.

We also present the work of ‘Dedinje’ Military Institution that, through a network of canteens, restaurants, buffets in barracks and open-type facilities, as well as single service member housing facilities, actively contributes to improving the quality of life of the Serbian Armed Forces members.

In the Arsenal section, read about the use of drones in urban close combat.
For the historical section, we delved into the archival documents of the Military Archives to describe how the investigation of war crimes committed by German prisoners of war was carried out. In the Traditions section, we present the scientific conference “Military Thought, War Experience and Literature 1850–1939”, which was held in the hall of the School of National Defense at the end of May with the aim of deepening the connections between military and social sciences.
