River Flotilla divers train on Zavojsko Lake

In accordance with the annual plan, River Flotilla divers have completed a ten-day camp on Zavojsko Lake near Pirot.
In addition to doing regular training and physical conditioning necessary for the execution of specific tasks, a part of the unit practised recovery of a sunken object, while the other part took exams for a higher level of diver certification.

As explained by the commander of the 93rd Diver Company, Lieutenant (Naval) Željko Krmpot, this is training marks the beginning of the summer training cycle, where divers are trained in underwater operations such as search and rescue and recovery of sunken objects.
— We find this lake interesting as a search and rescue training ground because it is 70 - 90 metres deep, depending on the water level, which is important to us because we do not have a body of water with similar depth near our home base in Novi Sad. For members of the River Flotilla, training at great depths is important for several reasons, such as adjusting to high pressures, reduced visibility and extremely low water temperatures – said Lieutenant Krmpot.

In accordance with the training programme, the divers first underwent physical conditioning in a hyperbaric chamber simulating depths of up to 50 metres, as well as drills on the Tisa, Danube and Begej rivers as part of a previously conducted tactical live fire exercise.
Diver training in the Serbian Armed Forces is very demanding because divers are expected to be ready for action in extreme conditions at all times, and being highly trained is the only guarantee that all tasks will be successfully executed, from detonating explosives underwater, to protecting important facilities on the waterways against mine action and sabotage, to carrying out search and rescue operations in all weather conditions.
