Deputy Chief of General Staff takes part in regional initiative in Bulgaria
Deputy Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, Lieutenant General Tiosav Janković, attended the annual meeting of regional deputy chiefs of staff held in Sofia today as part of the Southeast European Defence Ministerial Cooperation Initiative. The meeting discussed joint activities and projects as part of this initiative and issued a joint statement expressing commitment to constructive regional military cooperation in Southeast Europe as a means to ensure stability, trust and security in our region.
In his speech, General Janković underlined that “while respecting international law and protecting the principles of sovereign equality of states, the Republic of Serbia attaches special importance to defence cooperation with the countries in the region and the development of mutual trust and good neighbourly relations that ultimately make the Southeast Europe region safer”. The Southeast European Defence Ministerial (SEDM) was established in 1996, and the Republic of Serbia has been a full member of this regional initiative since 2010. SEDM’s main objective is to improve understanding and intensify political and military cooperation in the region, in order to strengthen security in this part of Europe. Member countries of this initiative are Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Georgia, Italy, Moldova, Romania, North Macedonia, the United States, Slovenia, Serbia, Türkiye, Ukraine, Croatia and Montenegro.
