Minister of Defence inspects infrastructure works in Niš barracks
Today, Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić visited the "Mija Stanimirović" and "Stevan Sinđelić" barracks in Niš to check the progress of important infrastructure projects that are underway in the Serbian Armed Forces units stationed there.
During the visit, Minister Gašić emphasized that infrastructure was one of priority areas for the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces.- The reconstruction and construction of new military facilities is a key step in improving infrastructure. These projects do not only improve the living and working conditions for SAF members, but they also extend the service life of combat vehicles, vehicles and equipment that are housed and used in these facilities. The goal is for infrastructure improvements to go along with modernization and provision of modern equipment, as these are parallel processes that are defined as priorities of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces - said Minister Gašić.
The construction of garages for housing vehicles and combat equipment covering an area of approximately 6,800 square metres is underway at the "Mija Stanimirović" barracks in Niš. The construction of five buildings for these purposes will be completed by the end of the year, and the first building for housing vehicles has been recently completed. It is planned that the complex will also include two wash ramps, while the construction of a plateau, traffic areas, and the complete infrastructure necessary for the functioning of the newly built facilities is being planned.
In the past period, roof reconstruction and replacement works have been successfully completed on a mobile equipment storage facility in the "Stevan Sinđelić" barracks in Niš. The damage caused by the roof leaks has been repaired and perfect conditions for housing the aforementioned equipment have been provided at the facility covering an area of 955 square metres.
Minister Gašić was accompanied on today’s tour by State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Mile Jelić, Head of the Logistics Department, General Staff, Major General Saša Petrović, Deputy Army Commander Major General Zoran Dragićević, acting Commander of the Mixed Artillery Brigade, Colonel Slobodan Vasiljević, Deputy Commander of the Third Army Brigade Colonel Branislav Stevanović, and Head of the Infrastructure Department, Lieutenant Colonel Miloš Peruničić.
