Minister Gašić attends ceremony to mark Ministry of Interior, Police Day



A ceremony to mark Ministry of the Interior Day and Police Day was held today at the Palace of Serbia with the President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, Aleksandar Vučić, in attendance.
The ceremony was also attended by Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić and the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović.

Congratulating the members of the Ministry of the Interior and the Police, the President of the Republic said that the police force should be granted stronger authority and a clear framework to establish law and justice.   
- Justice is the highest value in any society alongside peace, order, and social welfare. Without justice there is no success in any sphere of social life. To achieve this justice, we will need a stronger and more powerful police force. We will need a better-equipped police force whose members will be absolutely satisfied. You will always have support from me as President of the Republic, as well as my admiration for your hard work – said President Vučić and thanked the members of the Ministry of the Interior for defending and safeguarding Serbia.

Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić said that “today we celebrate the courage, self-sacrifice and unwavering commitment of all members of the Ministry of the Interior, who safeguard the peace and security of the Republic of Serbia every day”, and noted that the Ministry of the Interior “carries on a 214-year-long tradition”.
Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić congratulated the members of the Ministry of the Interior and the Police on their anniversary, stating that he was fully aware of the challenges that members of the Ministry of the Interior faced every day, as well as of the importance of their work for the security of citizens and the state.

- The Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of the Interior are the pillars of the security of our state and the stability of the whole society - said Minister Gašić, highlighting the exceptional cooperation between the two ministries.
At today's ceremony, which was attended by Prime Minister Đuro Macut, government ministers, representatives of state institutions, members of the Defence Minister’s and the Chief of the General Staff’s collegiums, medals for courage, merit and dedicated service were awarded to deserving members of the Ministry of the Interior and the Police.

On the occasion of Ministry of the Interior Day and Police Day, wreaths were laid at several locations in Belgrade.
Ministry of the Interior Day and Police Day are marked in memory of the events that took place in June 1862, when the Serbian Gendarmerie played a key role in the conflict with the Turks after the murder of a young Serb boy at Čukur Fountain, as well as during the bombardment of Belgrade by Ottoman troops.
