New issue of Odbrana

The June issue of the Odbrana Magazine brings you several interesting articles. You can find out which projects have been recently implemented by the Infrastructure Department and which have gained momentum in the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces. The goal is for infrastructure improvement to keep pace with modernization and procurement of modern equipment for the armed forces, as these are parallel processes that are defined as a permanent commitment.
The issue also brings several texts about the defence system. First, the story about the 72nd Special Operations Brigade’s snipers. They are extremely calm and patient, trained to respond efficiently to unforeseen challenges in a matter of seconds. You can also read about the Technical Overhaul Institute – Čačak, a century-old institution of the Serbian Armed Forces, and its greatest assets for the future. We have also watched mechanized and armoured units of the Third Army Brigade conduct combat training in the field.

We also recommend that you read the text about the innovations introduced by the new regulation on Psychological Activities in the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces. We have discussed the topic with representatives of the Section for the Development of Psychological Activities, Personnel Department, Human Resources Sector, Ministry of Defence.

Every system rests upon knowledge. When it comes to the defence system, the Defence University, whose integral part is the Strategic Research Institute, is a determining factor. In anticipation of the anniversary of this renowned research institution, which turned 50 last year, we have spoken with its director, Assoc. Prof. Dragan Stanar, Ph.D., about the Institute’s work and its growth projections for the future.

The Arsenal section is dedicated to the MP 40 submachine gun, colloquially but mistakenly referred to as the "Schmeisser", which was widely used on all fronts during the Second World War.

The History section features an article about the Second Infantry Regiment – Prince Mihailo Regiment, the only one out of approximately one hundred regiments mobilized during the 1912-1918 liberation wars that bore the honorary title "Iron Regiment".

Several articles featured in the June issue of our magazine are dedicated to fostering traditions. The first is dedicated to the panel discussion “Antifascism – Part of Identity”, which was held at the Central Military Club in Belgrade to mark the Victory over Fascism Day. Another important anniversary – the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War was marked this year. On that occasion, an exhibition was opened at the Central Military Club – “Victory and Freedom”, which we have also covered in one of our articles. The third text is about the 26th Memorial Regatta dedicated to Major Zoran Radosavljević, a passionate sailor, a pilot and a member of the elite 127th Fighter Squadron of the Yugoslav Army, who heroically died while defending his homeland during the 1999 NATO aggression. Another text, featured in the Sports section, is dedicated to this theme. It covers the Military Academy Pentathlon Championship - "Aleksa Dragaš Memorial".  Cadets and military school students, as well as members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces competed in five disciplines at this two-day competition.

The issue also features an article about the Milutin Milanković High School Students’ Hall of Residence that maintains successful cooperation with the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, a place where patriotism, responsibility and social engagement are promoted.
