Minister Gašić attends Ascension Day Procession with SAF members

Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić attended the Ascension Day procession, which was held tonight to mark the feast day of the city of Belgrade, the Ascension of the Lord - Spasovdan, led by His Holiness Porfirije, Serbian Patriarch.
Traditionally, members of the Serbian Armed Forces Guard, Military Academy cadets, students of the Military Grammar School and members of the Defence Minister’s and the Chief of the General Staff’s collegia also walked in the procession.
Representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church carried a reliquary containing Saint Sava’s hand, a relic residing in the Mileševa monastery, and numerous citizens walked and prayed along Belgrade’s downtown streets alongside the most precious relic.
The Ascension Day procession started at the intersection of Kneza Miloša Street and Kralja Milana Street, made its way across Slavija Square and down Liberation Boulevard, all the way to the Church of Saint Sava in Vračar, where Patriarch Porfirije delivered a sermon for the gathered people.
The reliquary with Saint Sava’s hand will be displayed in the church in Vračar over the next several days and services will be held daily.
The Ascension Day was established as the capital’s feast day in 1403, when the Serbian ruler Despot Stefan Lazarević declared Belgrade the capital of Serbia and chose the Ascension Day as the capital’s feast day.
