UN Peacekeepers Day

A military ceremony was held today at the Multinational Operations Training Centre at Base South near Bujanovac to mark the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, which honours the establishment of the UN's first peacekeeping mission deployed on May 29, 1948.
The holiday is dedicated to the personnel serving in peacekeeping missions, especially to those who lost their lives while maintaining international peace, and is commemorated at the UN headquarters in New York and in all member states.
At the ceremony held at Base South, in the presence of numerous guests, tribute was paid to all peacekeepers who have served in UN missions throughout the world over the past 77 years and the professionalism, discipline and dedication with which SAF members carry out their tasks in peacekeeping operations were highlighted.

As part of the UN Peacekeepers Day celebrations, a delegation from the Serbian Armed Forces laid a wreath at the grave of Lt. Col. Dejan Stanojević – SAF officer who died on March 29, 2022 while performing a task in the UN mission in Congo.
By participating in peacekeeping operations, the Serbian Armed Forces contribute to building and preserving peace in the world, while at the same time confirming their professionalism and ability to employ their troops and resources within the international framework. In addition to the enhancement of operational capabilities and interoperability, these missions contribute to the development of international cooperation and our country’s reputation. Currently, 267 members of the Serbian Armed Forces are serving in four UN peacekeeping operations. Our forces are also serving in four EU operations and in a mission in the Sinai Peninsula led by an independent peacekeeping organisation Multinational Forces and Observers.
