Successful performance of MoD, SAF team at Balkan Military Half Marathon Championship



The race team of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces won three medals at the 2nd CISM Balkan Military Half Marathon Championship in Sarajevo last weekend.
In half marathon, whose distance is 21 kilometres and 97 metres, members of the MoD and SAF race team managed to win a bronze medal in the individual race, and a silver and bronze medals in the team race.
 
The most successful military runner in the individual race was civilian employee Jovana Mandić, who completed the half marathon in 1 hour, 27 minutes and 9 seconds, winning third place and a bronze medal.
  The women’s team, consisting of Captain Milica Marković and civilian employees Jovana Mandić and Tijana Kabić took second place and won a silver medal, while the men's team, consisting of Capt. 1st Class Nikola Milosavljević, Capt. 1st Class Branko Bukvić and civilian employees Milivoje Jovović and Janko Urošević came in third and won a bronze medal.
 
According to the head of the Serbian delegation to the International Military Sports Council (CISM), Colonel Negovan Ivanković, Ph.D., the competitors gave their all at this extremely intense competition.
  - Our team worthily represented the Republic of Serbia, the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces. Our team, consisting of younger team members, competed at the Balkan Championship and the results they have achieved give us hope that athletics in the Serbian defence system has a bright future - said Colonel Ivanković.

The second CISM Balkan Military Half Marathon Championship was organized by the Ministry of Defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina, under the auspices of the International Military Sports Council - CISM. In addition to members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, the championship also included competitors from the host country’s armed forces, as well as the armed forces of Romania, Croatia, Slovenia, Türkiye and Montenegro.
