26th Zoran Radosavljević Memorial Regatta held
The 26th Memorial Regatta dedicated to Zoran Radosavljević was held this weekend on regatta fields located on Belgrade’s Sava River and Sava Lake with the support of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces.
For more than two and a half decades, the event is traditionally held in memory of Major Pilot Zoran Radosavljević, a passionate sailor and a member of the Yugoslav Army’s elite 127th Fighter Squadron, who died heroically defending the homeland during the 1999 NATO aggression.
This year’s regatta has brought together 51 sailboats. On both weekend days, the OPTIMIST category consisting of the youngest sailors under the age of 14 competed on Sava Lake, while more experienced sailors belonging to ILCA4, ILCA6, ILCA7, “micro” and “cruiser” categories competed on the stretch of the Sava River between Ada Međica and the New Railway Bridge.
This year’s winner in the “cruiser” category is Tara Živković from the Sailing Club Ada. Vladimir Švab from the Academic Sailing Club Beograd was the best in the “micro” category, while Katarina Prica from the same sailing club took first place in the “Optimist” category. Veljko Simonović from the Nautical Club Palilula and Miljana Zeković from the Sailing Club Palić were the best in ILCA4 and ILCA6 categories, while Luka Eraković from the Sailing Club Zemun competed individually in ILCA7 category.
Appreciation certificates were presented to the Second River Detachment, SAF River Flotilla, the Academic Sailing Club Beograd and Mr Bojan Greg from Rijeka in recognition of their outstanding collaboration and support in organizing the event.
Snežana Radosavljević Mažibrada, Major Zoran Radosavljević’s sister, expressed her gratitude to the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces for their assistance, primarily in terms of logistics, noting that the first regatta was held only three months after the end of the NATO aggression against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
- Since then, the regatta fields have changed, as have the participants, but I dare say that this is still one of the most prestigious events of this kind in Serbia - said Snežana Radosavljevic Mažibrada.
To honour Major Pilot Zoran Radosavljević and his heroic defence of the country, members of the Air Force and Air Defence provided symbolic support to the regatta participants during the first day of the competition, performing a fly-past on an H-145M helicopter from the 890th Mixed Helicopter Squadron, 204th Air Brigade.
The first “Zoki’s Regatta" was held on the Montenegrin coast in Herceg Novi in 1999, at the initiative of Major Zoran Radosavljević’s friend, who shared his passion for sailing. Since 2007, the regatta has been held in Belgrade.
