A ceremony to mark the Legal Service Day and its 161st anniversary was held today at the Air Force and Air Defence Command in Belgrade.
The ceremony was attended by State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Mile Jelić, acting Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Nebojša Nikolić, acting Assistant Minister for Defence Policy Predrag Bandić, acting Assistant Minister for Budget and Finance Goran Momčilović, Rector of the Defence University Brig. Gen. Boban Đorović, representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, legal professionals and numerous guests.

Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić and Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff Gen. Milan Mojsilović were presented with plaques of appreciation for their successful long-term cooperation.
Acting Secretary Nikolić addressed the audience highlighting the results achieved over the past period.

- In 2024, we intensified our work on the preparation of a new Law on Health Care and Health Insurance of Military Beneficiaries, with the aim of finally regulating this extremely important area involving both active duty and retired military personnel and their families. We would like to emphasize that a draft of a new Law on Military Education has been completed. I particularly highlight the preparation of a Law amending the Law on Conscription, Compulsory Labour and Requisition, which is a basis for creating the conditions for activating the obligation of doing military service, as a special form of citizen training for the defence of the country  - said Nikolić, adding that the organizational units of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces continue to perform their work responsibly, protecting the rights and interests of both the defence system employees and the system as a whole.

After the screening of a film about the history of the legal service, the most deserving representatives of the legal service were presented with awards and commendations.
The Legal Service celebrates its anniversary in commemoration of May 10, 1864 when the first Code of Military Justice, regulating court-martial organization and procedures in normal circumstances and states of emergency, was adopted in the Principality of Serbia, during the reign of Prince Mihailo Obrenović, in line with the European trends of the time.
