Gun salute marks Victory over Fascism Day
Today, members of the Serbian Armed Forces Guard fired a gun salute from the Sava Terrace in Kalemegdan Park to mark May 9 – Victory over Fascism Day.
The ceremony was attended by State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Mile Jelić, Deputy Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff Lt. Gen. Tiosav Janković and Guard Commander Brigadier General Željko Furundžić.
After the national flag was raised and the Serbian national anthem was played, orders issued by the President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, Aleksandar Vučić, were read and ten gun salutes were fired from six artillery weapons by Guard members.
Victory over Fascism Day commemorates May 9, 1945, when the Second World War ended in Europe following the unconditional surrender of Germany.
