Military ceremony to mark Guard Day

A military ceremony was held today at the Dedinje Barracks in Belgrade on the occasion of the Serbian Armed Forces Guard Day, which commemorates May 6, 1830, when the first Serbian Guard unit was formed in Požarevac.
As part of the celebrations, a parade of Guard units and a motorized echelon was held, followed by a performance of the Representative Guard Orchestra. Work results achieved in the past period were reviewed and awards were presented to the most deserving individuals.
The overview of results achieved in the year that celebrates the 195th anniversary of the formation of the first Guard unit highlighted the professionalism and a high level of proficiency demonstrated by unit members in performing numerous tasks, from training, to logistics support and protection of vital defence system facilities to performing military honours for the highest foreign, local and military officials.
Today, members of the Guard also observed their Patron Saint’s Day, the Feast of the Holy Great Martyr George - St. George's Day.
