Message from the President of the Republic on the occasion of Guard Day
The President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, has sent a message to Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić and all members of the Guard on the occasion of May 6 - Guard Day. The message reads as follows:
“I wish a happy Unit Day – May 6 to all members of the Guard.
Since 1830, when by Order of Prince Miloš Obrenović the Guard was formed from a group of the most distinguished young men of the time, to this day, thanks to your exceptional ability and great professionalism, you have built up the reputation of an elite unit of the Serbian Armed Forces, which has been in existence for almost as long as the modern Serbian state.
The Serbian Armed Forces Guard is a symbol of tradition, honour and dedicated service to the country. With your dedication and discipline, you have confirmed your importance as one of the most representative units of our Armed Forces for years. You consistently and proudly represent Serbia at home and abroad.
The results you achieve in performing the most complex tasks speak of your superior training, discipline and unswerving loyalty to the homeland. Aware of the importance of your role, the state will continue to invest in modern equipment, uniforms, weapons, training and living standards of Guard members, because a strong, well-equipped and respected Guard protects the reputation of both the Serbian Armed Forces and our country.
Thank you for your outstanding and honourable service. I am confident that you will continue to be an example to others and strengthen the trust you enjoy.
May your 195th anniversary and the feast day of St. George be an incentive for you to achieve your goals."
