New issue of Odbrana

In the May issue of the Odbrana magazine, after reviewing the most important activities in the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces during the past month, readers will have the opportunity, in the STANDING POINT section, to be reminded of the importance of the Guard, in which today, as always throughout history, the members are selected being unique in their high level of professionalism and exceptional dedication to performing tasks.
On the occasion of the 16th anniversary of the Faculty of Medicine of the Military Medical Academy, we spoke with the dean of this renowned institution of the University of Defence, Prof. Sonja Marjanović, PhD, who reminded that, except in the Czech Republic, medical officers are not trained in this way anywhere in Europe – that they simultaneously acquire the necessary knowledge from medicine and the military profession, and that, during their education, they have enough time to acquire all the skills they need to successfully perform their job.

We begin the SYSTEM section with a story about the 5th Military Police Battalion, whose main tasks are the suppression of crime, control and maintenance of military order and discipline, protection of the most important military facilities, people, documents and weapons, regulation and control of military road traffic, but also a part of anti-terrorism protection jobs. There is also the text on ‘Bronze Guardsmen’, written on the occasion of the 127th anniversary of the Military Printing House, whose wish is “that the book should not be made like any other product, but that it should be given the attention it deserves as man’s best friend, to preserve its soul and highlight its beauty”.

There is also a story about the beginning of the professional military career of young second lieutenants of the Serbian Armed Forces on posts for which they were trained.

The SYSTEM section is complemented by a text about 55 years of the Military Grammar School that pupils in the final year of elementary schools are increasingly interested in, and an interesting story about training in the Armoured Reconnaissance Battalion of the Army.

The HISTORY section brings a review by Dr. Marijana T. Mraović on the legal foundations of the Serbian army that, was transformed and improved during the 19th century, using the experience gained in wars and emulating the military organisation of other European countries, while in the SOCIETY section, you can read how the expert discussion on reserve military officers took place.

The CULTURE section announces events at the Central Military Club, which will mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II - the scientific forum entitled ‘Antifascism - part of identity’ and the opening of the exhibition ‘Victory and Freedom’, and there is also a story about the exhibition ‘Momo Kapor - the Golden Ratio’, which attracted significant attention from capital city art lovers.

The sports section of the May issue of Odbrana is dedicated to the 45th anniversary of the Karate Club “Vazduhoplovac”, founded by the Air Force and Air Defence of the Yugoslav People’s Army, whose members, on the eve of the “celebratory” tournament, trained with the cadets of the Military Academy.

Finally, we bring a reminder of the recently deceased “doyen of military photography”, Zoran Milovanović.
