Meeting of Working Group for drafting National Action Plan for implementation of Resolution 1325
Members of the Working Group of the Serbian
Government and the Working Team of the Ministry of Defence for drafting the National Action Plan of the Republic of Serbia for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 met today in the House of Guards at Topcider at the first in a series of planned meetings on this occasion. The meeting was led by Major General Bozidar Forca, PhD, Head of the Working Team of the Ministry of Defence, Jovanka Šaranovi?, PhD, Acting Director of the Strategic Research Institute of the Ministry of Defence and Deputy Head of the Working Team, and Natasa Petrovic, Project Coordinator in the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence.
On 24 June this year Serbian Government passed a Decision on Establishment of the Working Group for Drafting the National Action Plan of the Republic of Serbia for the Implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 – Women, Peace and Security.
“Over the past decade More than 30 countries of the world has made national action plans for implementation of that resolution. However, no country in our neighbourhood did so, nor did any other post-communist country", General Forca said adding that it is of utmost importance that the Republic of Serbia, on its way to the European Union, shows with this act also its commitment to peace and respect for human rights, abolition of discrimination and advocating for gender equality. Professional support to the Working Group and the working teams of the Government and the Ministry of Defence through suggestions was provided by representatives and associates of the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence, which was also the initiator.
The aim of the National Action Plan is to increase the visibility of women in the security sector, their involvement in peace processes, as well as improving of the implementation of gender equality. Ministry of Defence has actively participated in all phases of the work on Recommendations for Drafting the National Action Plan.
