Marking the day of the River Flotilla



The Day of the River Flotiall was marked with a number of ceremonies. The ceremony held in Aleksandar Beric barracks in Novi Sad was attended by LTG Ljubisa Dikovic, army commander along with other officers, as well as the members of the local self-government and of religious communities. The present were addressed by Navy Captain Nebojsa Joksimovic who stressed that the flotilla was a unified unit whose main purpose is securing Serbia’s water-ways, antiterrorist activities on vessels as well as search and rescue in inner water-ways.

General Dikovic also congratulated this day to the riverine members, while the most successful members were presented with awards. The program included a parade of vessels where the 1st pontoon company of the First pontoon battalion was declared the best riverine unit while mine sweeper 335 was proclaimed the best river vessel.

Citizens of Novi Sad were able to see the first rowing rally with three teams of the riverine competing from Belgrade quay in Novi Sad. They were competing on 1100 m in “sljupka” boats. The nine-member team of the First Riverine Detachment and it was awarded the prize by Navy Captain Nebojsa Joksimovic presenting them with the Helmsman’s Wheel.

Last night as part of the ceremony the members of the riverine along with many guests saw “Kao rani mraz”, a movie by our renowned songwriter Djordje Balasevic. Before and after the movie Balasevic performed some of his best-known songs and the celebration was attended by the majority of the cast including Balasevic’s wife Olivera, and Jovana and Aleksa Balasevic with Marko Makivic and Radoje Cupic.
