Mine clearance in Pasuljanske livade training ground

The cooperation of the SAF, Emergency Situations Department of the Ministry of the Interior and the Russian state-agency Emerkom resulted in a successful clearance of mines at Pasuljanske livade training ground. These mines are unexploded ordnance left in the wake of the ammo dump explosion in Paracin. Furthermore, three German bombs from WWII were found and destroyed.

After combing the terrain, detecting unexploded ordnance and its transport, at Pasuljanske livade training ground, more than 70 bombs, grenades and other unexploded ordnance were disposed of.

Bratislav Rancic, Chief of the Civil Defense Department, Emergency Situations Sector stated that this was one of the most important tasks the Emergency Situations Department is facing.

Unexploded ordnance is usually destroyed at the site where they were found, however, in order to avoid any disturbance of the citizens of Paracin, in cooperation with the Serbian Armed Forces and Emerkom state-agency we decided to do this in the training ground Pasuljanske livade. I would also like to take this opportunity to call on the citizens not to take any action when finding unexploded ordnance, but to contact the Police immediately at 92 and 985 phone numbers, which places the disposal of any unexploded ordnance under my jurisdiction, as Rancic pointed out.

The pyrotechnical teams of the Emerkom agency and the Emergency Situations Department completed successfully this operation, while the detonation was conducted in two pits where the ordnance was buried and then detonated. All security measures were taken during the process while the patrols of Traffic Police were also present as well as the fire fighting and ambulance teams.

This is the fourth action of this type conducted in Pasuljanske livade during 2010 alone in cooperation of SAF, Russian Emerkom and the Ministry of Interior’s Emergency Situations Department. More than 900 pieces of unexploded ordnance have been disposed of so far.
