DRG Group resumes its work

By holding 12th meeting of DRG (Defense Reform Group) meeting in the House of Guards in Topcider, after a two-year break, the mechanism of cooperation between NATO and Serbia resumed its work.

The meeting was chaired by the cochairman of the group, the Head of the International Military Cooperation Department, Milorad Peric and the NATO forces planning directorate Mr. Frank Boland. Based on the proposal of the executive co-chair of the group, the Head of the Strategic Planning Department Major General Bozidar Forca, a work plan for the period June 2010-June 2011 was adopted, while also establishing the bodies supporting the Group’s work. The meeting was attended by DAs and the representatives of EU and NATO member states’ embassies.

The basic goals of the renewed Group are the support to the institutional cooperation of Serbia with the NATO in the process of defense reform, by reaching partner goals in the Planning and Review Process, by becoming engaged in the Operational Capabilities Concept, to draft projects for solving specific reform problems, as well as to promote coordination and efficacy of the bilateral military cooperation with EU and NATO.

In the period 2005-2008 the work of the group was very successful, and the experiences to-date have shown that it significantly facilitates the interdepartmental approach to processes crucial to the reform of the defense system and engagement within PfP.

After the meeting, Undersecretary of Defense Dusan Spasojevic received the co-chairs of the Group who acquainted him with the results of the meeting and the plan of the future work of the Serbia-NATO defense reform group.
