State Secretary Spasojevic receives his Turkish colleague



State Secretary Dusan Spasojevic received today the Undersecretary of the Turkish Ministry of Defense LTG Ahmet Turmus who is leading the delegation of the Turkish MoD in a several-day visit to Serbia.

Both sides agreed that the cooperation so far was extremely good and both sides considered options for improving it in the next period, especially in military economy and training and education.

Spasojevic acquainted the participants with the process of the reforms in Serbia, professionalization in SAF and the international military cooperation especially in activities within the Partnership for Peace Programme and deployment in peace operations.

With respect to the situation in the region, Spasojevic said that regional cooperation was one of the main priorities of our foreign policy and within this context we can say that Mod and SAF by participating in regional initiatives was giving full contribution to developing regional stability.

Speaking of the security situation in the region, Spasojevic stressed that the self-declared proclamation of independence of Kosovo and Metohija was the biggest security challenge and a sore spot of the western Balkans, expressing the mains stances of the state policy. Despite any disagreements regarding the status of our southern province god cooperation between Serbia and Turkey was of extreme importance for the regional stability, as he stated, emphasizing that all regional countries share a desire for faster integrations in EU where the potential for final stabilization of this part of Europe lies.

It was necessary, as they agreed, to continue with high level cooperation between the officials of two ministries.

Undersecretary Turmus alos met today with the SAF CHOD LTG Miloje Miletic, State Secretary Zoran Jeftic and the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Mirko Stefanovic while also touring the Military Medical Academy. Tomorrow he will attend the graduate demo exercise of MA cadets ‘Diplomac 2010”.
