Minister Jaber and Sutanovac sign an agreement on military-technical cooperation

Minister of Defense Dragan Sutanovac and the Minister of defense and the commander of the armed forces of Libya Major General Abu Bakr Yunis Jaber signed an Agreement on Military-Technical Cooperation in Tripoli.

In his address to the media representatives Minister pointed out that both countries had significant opportunities for cooperation.

- The very fact that I am the first defense minister to be paying a visit to Libya in the last 25 years at the invitation of minister Yunis Jaber, as this visit has been agreed on during President Tadic’s meeting with the Leader of the Revolution Gaddafi bespeaks of the importance of the visit since the signing of this agreement marks the beginning of a new ear of relations between Libya and Serbia.

As Sutanovac added, these two countries had cooperated in the most difficult times.

This contract, as we are certain, will enable the development of certain weapons and military equipment, as Sutanovac said stressing that this contract envisions that a large number of officers and cadets be sent to Serbia on studies. Our country will also provide health care services, as we take great pride in the results achieved in this area last year.

- This is just the beginning as we are certain that both Serbia and Libya have great possibilities for successful cooperation. We will discuss with the Libyan Prime Minister the possibilities for cooperation in railway industry and launching Serbian food products on the Libyan market.

Major General Abu Bakr Yunis Jaber emphasized that according to all standards the visit of the Serbian delegation should be considered successful.

- The visit of the Serbian defense minister followed the recent visit of President Tadic to President Gaddafi and it opens up new prospects for cooperation in the military field as well. By investing great effort both sides have managed to agree on the documents which envision broad educational-technical cooperation and other fields of cooperation both sides deem fit, as Minister Jaber said.

The Libyan defense minister stressed that the signed agreement confirms historical relations of Serbia with the Great Jamahiriya. In his words, such relations bilge the countries to continue cooperation and develop good relations between the army of Serbia and the armed people of the Great Jamahyria.

The agreement envisions the cooperation of the two ministries in renovating the military hospital in Libya and the exchange of experts of the two countries as well as providing medical care to terminal patients from Libya at MMA. Furthermore, both sides have recognized the potential for educating Libyan cadets and officers at MMA. Another topic of discussion was the exchange and the modernization and overhaul of the Libyan equipment, weapons and vessels.
