Chief of Serbian Armed Forces General Staff visiting Cyprus

The Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, is on an official visit to the Republic of Cyprus at the invitation of the Chief of the National Guard of that country, Lieutenant General Georgios Tsikikostas.
The official part of the three-day visit started today with a military welcome ceremony to honour the arrival of the Serbian Armed Forces delegation, followed by a meeting with General Tsitsikostas and official talks between the delegations. While in Nicosia, General Mojsilović had the opportunity to meet with Minister of Defence Vasilis Palmas.
The meetings discussed bilateral military cooperation and possibilities for its improvement, as well as contemporary security challenges in the region and the world.

During the talks, it was agreed that the military-to-military cooperation was an important part of the relationship between the two countries that share mutual interests and maintain friendly relations. It was also confirmed that both sides were determined to further develop cooperation in all areas relevant to the Serbian Armed Forces and the National Guard of the Republic of Cyprus.
During the meeting, the Chief of the General Staff highlighted Serbia’s deep appreciation for all the support of the Republic of Cyprus for Serbia’s EU integration process and efforts to preserve its territorial integrity.

General Mojsilović also spoke with the members of the Serbian Armed Forces deployed with the UNFICYP as staff officers and members of an MP unit and made sure that they were safe, that morale among them was high and that they were carrying out their tasks responsibly and professionally.
The Chief of the General Staff will also visit the “Andreas Papandreou” Air Base in Paphos, where the purpose, tasks and critical assets of the 55th Combat Group will be presented to him. His visit to Cyprus ends tomorrow with a tour of the Joint Rescue and Coordination Centre in Larnaca.
