Press release

Today, at 10.39 a.m., the forces that monitor and protect the sovereignty of the airspace over the Republic of Serbia around the clock detected an unidentified aircraft over Valjevo, at an altitude of 5,500 metres.

By order of the President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, Aleksandar Vučić, a pair of MiG-29 fighters were scrambled and on-duty air defence missile units and radars continued to monitor the airspace.

While the pair of aircraft were being navigated towards the air intercept zone, the target echo disappeared from the radar. The fighters continued their flight and searched the zone, in line with the procedure, in order to verify the situation. After searching the zone, the pair of fighters was ordered to return to the home airfield, while the rest of the forces continued to monitor and survey the airspace.
