Rotation of SAF units in peacekeeping operation

A SAF unit drawn from the Training Command, which was deployed with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) since last September, has returned to the Republic of Serbia after successfully completing its engagement.
This platoon-sized unit was responsible for securing the base where the Italian peacekeepers were stationed, and it was replaced by a new force protection platoon from the Serbian Armed Forces, which was deployed to the area of operation in early March.

Working in the complex security situation in Lebanon, officers and soldiers carried out all their tasks responsibly and professionally, which is typical of members of the Serbian Armed Forces whose engagement in peacekeeping operations is highly rated and commended by foreign partners.

The rotation was carried out in the United Nations base in Lebanon, in the presence of the commander of the Serbian force protection platoon’s sector. At the ceremony held on that occasion, members of the Serbian Armed Forces were awarded UN medals for successful participation in the mission and contribution to building and safeguarding peace.
The Serbian Armed Forces have been contributing troops to the peacekeeping operation in Lebanon since 2010. In addition to the force protection platoon, an infantry company, staff officers and a group of specialists responsible for providing support to our contingent currently serve in this operation.
