President Tadic lays a wreath at Zejtinlik

The President of Serbia Boris Tadic laid a commemorative wreath together with the Defense Ministers of Serbia and Greece, Dragan Sutanovac and Evangelos Venizelius respectively on the Memorial to Serbian soldiers at Zejtinlik on Corfu.

The ceremony was attended by Greek Archbishop Varnavas as well as several dozen students from Serbia studying in Thessaloniki.

The ceremony began with a minute of silence to honor of the Serbian soldiers followed by the intoning of both Serbian and Greek anthems.

5860 remains were buried in the vault underneath the chapel, while 1440 soldiers were laid to rest in a cemetery with a total of 10 plots.

The Zejtinlik memorial cemetery also houses two joint tombs where 295 unknown soldiers of the Thessalonica Front were buried.
It should also be noted that there is a partisan cemetery where 125 victims of WWII were buried.
