Serbian Armed Forces General Staff’s Proposal for Reintroduction of Mandatory Military Service

In order to increase the defence capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces through rejuvenation, more efficient staffing and better training for the active and reserve troops, the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, which is the highest professional and staff authority on the preparation and use of the Serbian Armed Forces in peace and war, has launched an initiative and proposed to the President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Aleksandar Vučić that the military service obligation, for a duration of up to four months, should be restored.

The Serbian Armed Forces General Staff’s proposal comes after an in-depth analysis of the general security situation and contemporary challenges facing the Republic of Serbia as a neutral country, which have created the need to adjust the recruitment model used by the Serbian Armed Forces, which would facilitate the strengthening of the overall recruitment potential and training of a larger number of citizens for defence of our country.
