Minister Vučević attends Financial Service Day celebration

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Miloš Vučević attended a ceremony to mark the Financial Service Day, held at the Guard Club in Topčider today.
Minister Vučević congratulated all members of the Financial Service and expressed hope that they would continue to manage public funds allocated to the Ministry of Defence from the budget of the Republic of Serbia in a careful, conscientious and responsible manner.

- Your sector is engaged in many different areas, you are not only responsible for paying salaries to employees, but thanks to the support of your sector, i.e. through finances, we are able to do the most complex, most important things such as the procurement of weapons and military equipment, making investments in defence industry, making contributions towards pension scheme and disability insurance, making investments in the health system, in the infrastructure, in the energy sector, in the entire logistical support needed for the functioning of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces - said Minister Vučević.

A joint effort is being made, he said, to make sure that two percent of the GDP of the Republic of Serbia is allocated to the Ministry of Defence, so that it can be used in accordance with state policy and national interests. He expressed his delight at cooperating with Assistant Minister for Budget and Finance Katarina Pavičić and her associates and added that they always had constructive meetings.
  - I believe it will remain so in the period to come. You look after the budget of the Ministry of Defence efficiently, making sure that it is not restrictive, in terms of allowing for the development of the potential that the Ministry of Defence needs to develop. I am especially proud of the fact that after many years we have reintroduced additional commercial services at the Military Medical Academy, which has provided our citizens with high-quality and efficient health care and ensured additional income for the employees of the Military Medical Academy - said the Minister of Defence. He once again congratulated members of the Financial Service, stressing that finances were "the heart and backbone of our country's defence, because without finances it would be impossible to maintain, invest in and develop the defence capabilities of the Republic of Serbia".

According to Assistant Minister of Defence for Budget and Finance Katarina Pavičić, Serbia’s accelerated development creates the need for continuous development of the financial service, which has recognized this need on time and directed its activities towards reforming the organization and functioning of financial management.
  - Goals have been set to provide infrastructure, IT, personnel and normative conditions for the improvement of the financial management system, as well as new accounting and payroll information systems. By attaining the set goals, we have ensured greater efficiency, security, risk reduction and availability of reports and real time information necessary for making good management decisions - the Assistant Minister for Budget and Finance pointed out and added that, thanks to the high potential employees of the financial service, she was confident that future goals would also be achieved.

The Minister of Defence and the Assistant Minister for Budget and Finance presented awards to deserving members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces for their great dedication and excellent work results.

Financial Service Day commemorates November 8, 1944, when the Financial Department of the National Defence Commission was established. Thus, the financial service was legally constituted as a separate service in the armed forces’ structure.
