Minister Skundric gives a lecture to the attendees of the National Defense School

Minister of Mining and Energy Petar Skundric gave a lecture today tot eh National Defense School attendees. The lecture was also attended by State Secretary Zoran Vesic and Deputy Head of the Military Academy Branko Boskovic.

Minister Skundric presented the aspects of modern energy problems to the attendees of the general staff and command staff college stressing that energy “belongs more to politics than ever before”.

He stressed that Serbia generates enough energy and even exports part of its production. In his words the system is stable and any speculations that the state is importing power are not true. Skundric emphasized the importance of the Serbia-Russian energy arrangement for Serbia’s energy effectiveness and for the bilateral relations of both countries. Any strategic partnership with Russia and China means a sort of a necessary wind in our backs to our EU integrations.

New projects and initiatives have been launched, as he said, entailing investments into new and the overhaul of existing capacities. The minister mentioned the building of “Kolubara B’ and Nikola Tesla 3 power plants as well as the overhaul of the HPP “Djerdap”, underlining that we were working on promoting the use of renewable energy sources, as well as on the exploration of new natural resources and ores.

The construction of the South Stream gas pipeline could bring large benefits to Serbia as the current estimate is that some 40 billion cubic meters will flow which would generate significant income. He also remarked that Serbia had accepted that the Nabucco pipeline should go through Serbia too, even though that is not planned, as it would be beneficial both financially and in terms of security.
