Commemoration of 50th Anniversary of Death of Milunka Savić



Today, a delegation of the Ministry of Defence, led by Acting Assistant Minister for Human Resources Siniša Radović, paid homage and laid a wreath at the New Cemetery in Belgrade, on the occasion of observing 50th anniversary of death of Milunka Savić.

Wreaths were laid by Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Nikola Selaković, delegation of the Serbian Armed Forces, Assembly of the City of Belgrade, Voždovac Municipality, representatives of diplomatic and military-diplomatic corps, associations that cherish traditions of liberation wars of Serbia and descendants.

The organiser of the activity was the Association of War Volunteers 1912-1918 and their descendants and admirers.

Milunka Savić, a hero of Balkan Wars and the First World War was a sergeant in the Second Regiment of the Serbian Army “Knjaz Mihailo”, and she is the most decorated woman in the history of warfare. She was wounded in combat nine times. Milunka Savić was a woman who fought for freedom and welfare of her fatherland and she dedicated her life to that goal.
