Pontoon bridge to Lido Beach dismantled

Members of the Army pontoon units dismantled today the pontoon bridge connecting the Zemun Quay to the Great War Island, thus ending this year’s swimming season on the Danube Lido Beach.
The 20-ton bridge, made up of 38 floats with a total length of 355 m, was installed in late June this year. A crew was on duty 24 hours, 7 days a week to make sure that the pedestrians can use the bridge safely and to look after its maintenance.

In a complex and demanding procedure, the components of the pontoon bridge were disassembled into two floating sections that will be transported by water to their home station.
In cooperation with the tourist organization of the City Municipality of Zemun, members of the Serbian Armed Forces have been installing pontoon bridges over Danube, connecting the Great War Island to the Zemun bank for years. Apart from being beneficial for the citizens, this is also an excellent opportunity for members of pontoon units to improve their skills in performing unit-specific tasks.
