Restoration of Jošanica riverbed

This week, members of the Serbian Armed Forces in cooperation with the local self-government in Blace, are carrying out a CIMIC project to improve the Jošanica riverbed in the village of Gornje Svarče.
As part of their engineer training, members of the 3rd Army Brigade’s engineer task force are involved in this activity, together with the employees of the Public Utility Company from Blace.  The goal is to take preventive action and reinforce riverbanks to prevent the Jošanica River from overflowing in the event of torrential flows.

As part of the planned works, thick vegetation, soil deposits and other material deposited on the riverbed were being removed using SAF’s modern engineering machinery.
The 3rd Army Brigade engineers were previously engaged on similar tasks in Kuršumlija in June and July, when, in cooperation with the local public utility company, they cleared the most critical sections of the riverbeds of the Toplica and Kosanica, and in Žitorađa, where they were repairing the flood control infrastructure.

In addition to acting preventively against flooding, projects like this help improve the competence of the members of engineer units, which have an important role in the execution of tasks in all three missions of the Serbian Armed Forces.
