SAF unit evaluated prior to deployment to peacekeeping operation

Tactical Exercise Serbian Shield has been conducted at Base South and the Borovac training ground near Bujanovac this week. The objective of the exercise was to assess the readiness of a force protection platoon prior to its deployment to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
This Training Command’s unit will be engaged in this Middle Eastern country as part of the Italian contingent, with the basic task of securing the base where UN peacekeeping forces are stationed.

For several days, unit members carried out tactical assignments they might be tasked with in the area of operation, and the platoon’s skills and interoperability were assessed by the Assessment Team of the SAF General Staff.

March procedures, air-defence measures, manning the permanent checkpoint and observation station, and the procedures in the event of an attack on the base or encountering mines and explosive ordnance were monitored and evaluated.
It was concluded that the force protection platoon meets the prescribed standards and is fully prepared for engagement with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon.

The Serbian Armed Forces have been contributing a force protection platoon to this operation since 2014. Besides the force protection platoon, the SAF contingent engaged in UNIFIL consists of an infantry company, staff officers, and a group of specialists responsible for providing support to our contingent.
