Delegation of Ministry of Defence Visits Kajmakčalan and Zeitenlik
A delegation of the Ministry of Defence consisting of Head of Private Office of Minister of Defence Brigadier General Goran Momčilović, Head of Private Office of Deputy Prime Minister Žarko Mićin, and Adviser to the Minister of Defence Nikola Banjac laid wreaths today at the monument at the Serbian military cemetery Zeitenlik in Thessaloniki, and on the grave of recently deceased guardian of the Serbian military cemetery Đorđe Mihailović. A day before, the delegation of the Ministry of Defence visited Kajmakčalan and laid wreaths for the fallen Serbian Soldiers in the Memorial Chapel of Peter and Paul.
In the memorial book at the Serbian military cemetery Zeitenlik, Head of Private Office of Deputy Prime Minister Žarko Mićin wrote:“Guided by the faith in the liberation of Serbia, when the times were the toughest, united and intent on defending human dignity and your fatherland, you won a victory a preserved the national identity of the Serbian people.
You will forever remain an example of self-sacrifice and love for one’s fatherland, placed on a pedestal of all those who are to be remembered.
May the memory of you live forever for we are forever grateful!”
In the memorial room at Kajmakčalan, Brigadier General Goran Momčilović wrote the following:“On the site where Serbian youth perished, the spirit of freedom, defiance, and perseverance can still be felt in the air. The morale and courage of Serbian soldiers who yearned to return to their homes, reached their climax on impassable peaks of Kajmakčalan opening the symbolical “gates to freedom”.
More than a century later, you still remain a role model to the Serbian Armed Forces and our people teaching us how to endure and never waver in the fight for the freedom of the fatherland and all its citizens.
Rest in peace, never forgotten, celebrated forever!”
Apart from the delegation of the Ministry of Defence, military veterans, members of the Association of Warriors of Košare paid homage to the heroes of the Salonika Front.
