Departure of Serbian Armed Forces Continent for Peackeeping Operation in Lebanon

Today, a military celebration was held in the barracks “Narodni heroj Stevica Jovanović” on the occasion of the departure of a new Serbian Armed Forces contingent for United Nations Peacekeeping Operation in Lebanon.

The contingent, which is, in next six months, going to be a part of United Nations peacekeeping forces in this Middle Eastern country, consists of the First Army Brigade Infantry company and staff officers.

The infantry company will execute its tasks in the area of operation as an autonomous unit within a Spanish battalion, while staff officers are to be assigned to duties in the mission command. The members of the Serbian Armed Forces previously underwent comprehensive preparations and several month long training to be fully ready for the engagement in the peacekeeping operation.

The ceremonial send-off was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Defence, Serbian Armed Forces units, bodies of local self-government and Serbian Orthodox Church, and relatives and friends of the soldiers and officers sent to the mission.

The Serbian Armed Forces started their participation in United Nations peacekeeping operation in Lebanon in 2010. In this mission, the Serbian Armed Forces are currently deploying an infantry unit, force protection platoon, staff officers and a group of specialised officers tasked to provide support to our contingent.
