Minister Vučević Meets Members of European Union Delegation in Serbia

Today, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Miloš Vučević met members of the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Serbia led by Ambassador and Head of the Delegation Emanuele Giaufret, with whom he discussed the security situation in Kosovo and Metohija.

Minister Vučević noted the further intensification of fabricated and tendentious provocations and incidents threaten the security and lives of the citizens of Serbian nationality, posing the threat to peace in the region as well.

According to the minister of defence, immediately after the talks in Brussels, the Provisional institutions of Self-Government in Priština headed by Albin Kurty, have proved once again that they cannot be trusted, and the continuation of their irresponsible, immature and ruthless policy delivers a heavy blow to all efforts to restore the dialogue and preserve peace and stability.

Minister Vučević called upon all European Union institutions to provide active contribution to the de-escalation of the situation and stop the wilfulness of Albin Kurti, whose dangerous policy of violence annuls all agreements of the dialogue hitherto achieved. He requested the momentary release of imprisoned Serbs and putting stop to further arrests, as well as the withdrawal of false mayors and special police forces from the north of Kosovo and Metohija, and the urgent establishment of the Association of Serb Municipalities.

Ambassador Giaufret expressed deep concern of EU institution with the security situation in Kosovo and Metohija. He agreed with the disappointing fact that only one day after the talks new incidents ensued. He requested from responsible authorities of the Republic of Serbia to do everything in their power to avoid further deterioration of the situation and to return to the dialogue. As he pointed out, the European Union will undertake measures to discourage the policy of provoking violence and causing incidents, and he stressed that the common goal should be the lasting peace, security and economic development of the region.
